About The Position

The work involves assisting in the initial planning, designing and implementation of and ongoing workflow of an electronic medical records (EMR) for the Ambulatory Care Department and Health Information Services Department within Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). This is a Registered Professional Nurse position. The incumbent directs, trains and manages the design, modification, automation, support and implementation of the EMR. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Vice President of Ambulatory Services and the Chief Information Officer. Supervision is exercised over those receiving instruction. Does related work as required.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Master's Degree in Nursing Informatics and two (2) years of professional nursing experience, at least one (1) years of which included working with an electronic medical record system and performing clinical nurse training; or
  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and four (4) years of professional nursing experience, least two (2) years of which included working with an electronic medical record system and performing clinical nurse training; or:
  • Possession of an Associate's Degree in Nursing and six (6) years of professional nursing experience, at least two (2) years of which included working with an electronic medical record system and performing clinical nurse training; or:
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) and (C).
  • Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State at time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning, configuration, testing, and deployment of new and existing EMR systems;
  • Collaborates with Health Information Systems (HIS), and Ambulatory services to ensure successful system integration into hospital workflows;
  • Formulates plan for implementation of hardware and software in clinical areas, ensuring that the needs of all clinical staff are met;
  • Accurately assesses application software to ensure that the system meets the requirements of the regulatory agencies including department, hospital, HIPPA, Center for Medicare/Medicaid, Joint Commission, and New York State regulatory measures;
  • Instructs the teaching of electronic medical record and other applications;
  • Assists with system build activities to ensure build complies with all design elements and quality measures;
  • Assists in assessing overall workflow through operational areas and makes process improvement recommendations;
  • Coordinates and supervises the required clinic specific modifications to the EMR system;
  • Assists in the coordination of and participates in the installation of upgrades to application software;
  • Escalates and addresses complex EMR issues to IT or vendor support teams and follow-up to ensure resolution;
  • Assists in the collection of data to meet regulatory and compliance requirements;
  • Develops EMR competencies and ensures staff is compliant with competencies;
  • Participates in designing a quality assurance program as it relates to the EMR;
  • Provides onsite support during EMR system go-live, assisting staff with troubleshooting and system navigation;
  • Serves as liaison for first-line problem solver and point of contact for EMR issues in the Department clinics.
