About The Position

Are you ready to inspire the next generation of nurses and share your passion for nursing education? UPMC Altoona is looking for a full-time Clinical Educator to join our team! With a focus on supporting new nurses, this role offers you the opportunity to make a lasting impact on patient care and professional growth. The role will primarily focus on supporting our Operating Room & PACU. We're seeking candidates with OR and PACU experience (preferred) who are eager to lead and innovate. This position runs Monday through Friday with primarily day shifts but also offers flexibility to accommodate new hire schedules-perfect for those who value a dynamic and adaptable work environment. As a Clinical Educator, you'll assess, plan, and implement clinical learning programs to meet the needs of our team. You'll take ownership of developing and teaching education programs tailored to your assigned clinical area. Working closely with Department Directors and Medical Staff committees, you'll play a vital role in shaping high-quality education that advances nursing excellence.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of current clinical experience commensurate with the assigned clinical area.
Must hold a valid registration as a nurse in the State of Pennsylvania
BSN required, MSN or Master of Science with a major in nursing preferred.
Must be willing to attain a Master's degree within six years if not at the time of hire.
Specialty Certification required or achieved within six months of hire date.
Proven ability to teach and train others effectively.
Strong knowledge of current nursing procedures, methods, and practices.
High level of initiative, patience, and judgment for developing, revising, and adapting programs to achieve objectives.
Skilled in building positive relationships with medical staff and hospital personnel.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for developing and presenting educational sessions and reports.
Expertise in applying adult learning principles to educational content.
ACLS/BLS and PALS/Neonatal Instructor designation required within six months of hire (as applicable).
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Responsibilities

Maintain required RN competencies, including trauma skills when necessary.
Act as a resource for nursing staff to improve practice standards.
Ensure compliance with occupational exposure policies.
Plan, teach, and assist with staff education, courses, and continuing education programs.
Develop and update materials for orientation and training.
Organize the Annual Competency Fair.
Create accurate lesson plans with clear objectives and evaluation methods.
Support staff orientation and education as needed.
Recruit speakers for training sessions and classes.
Review and evaluate training programs to ensure quality.
Participate in the planning and presentation of clinical orientation programs.
Keep supervisors updated on department activities and seek guidance as needed.
Share input for budget planning and ensure cost-effective program operation.
Prepare engaging written and visual materials for education purposes.
Engage in continuing education and professional association activities for personal growth.
Perform other duties as needed to support exceptional patient care.
