About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Organ and Surgical Services Trainer supports the mission, goals and strategic plan of South Florida Donor Network, Inc. (SFDN). is responsible for job specific training in Organ Services, Surgical Services, and assisting the Director of People Culture + Development with overall Organizational training. Develops systems that maintain and continually improve identified competencies for SFDN Organ and Surgical staff. Participates in the orientation for new staff; coordinates and/or provides on-going education activities from internal and external sources. Additionally, provides on-site education and training as required. Through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating an organized program for staff education, directed toward the achievement of professional excellence. Will also evaluate all educational and training needs for clinical staff, as well as assess existing programs and making adjustments as needed. This position may require taking call in order to assess competencies of clinical staff during cases.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare related science or Biological Science with 2 years of Critical Care experience in a related healthcare field.
  • 3 years as an Organ Recover Coordinator, Donation Development Coordinator or Family Services Coordinator.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and ability to master the administration of a Learning Management System and Authoring Tool Software

Responsibilities

  • Performs all of the essential job functions of an Organ Recovery Coordinator, Donation Development Coordinator and Family Services Coordinator.
  • Works in conjunction with the Manager of Education and Development to create internal training modules and modalities. Uses adult learning theories to provide the best learning opportunity.
  • Observes staff “on-site” to educate and assess mastery of job skills and core competencies. Requires incumbent to be available for any “on-call” schedule. Is required to assume “on-call” responsibility to validate an employee’s independent practice when operations employees are on the on-call schedule.
  • Develops and implements training in collaboration with Director, Managers of Organ Services, and Surgical Services.
  • Develops an annual training plan to ensure that all staff demonstrate acceptable levels of competency for their positions.
  • Provides on-site annual skills assessment and validates staff competency.
  • Develops and Maintains records of training activities and employee progress
  • Ensures Training Records and files are current.
  • Coordinates training presentations, training topics and training activities for Organ and Surgical Services, Donation Development and Family Services staff meetings.
  • Participates in the identification and training of preceptors in conjunction with leadership.
  • Schedules and conducts post-case debriefing sessions with trainee and preceptor to: validate, strengths/weaknesses, achievement/no achievement of training objectives, and documents case experiences.
  • Writes training evaluations and determines when a trainee can be signed off for independent practice in conjunction with the Trainee’s Manager and Director.
  • Ensures that staff training aligns with current policy and practices.
  • Collaborates with Quality and Regulatory Affairs, and Director of People Culture + Development to address specific training needs identified on performance appraisals, occurrences, internal audits and organizational audits such as hospital feedback, UNOS, AOPO and CMS.
  • Administers, organizes and conducts training and educational programs in areas related to staff development, on-the-job training and employee orientation. Monitors the effectiveness of programs.
  • Attends various meetings and conferences pertaining to organ recovery as designated.
  • Performs other activities as assigned by the Manager of Education & Development.
  • Employees must adhere to and remain in full compliance with South Florida Donor Network’s Motor Vehicle Driving Policy as outlined in the Motor Vehicle Records and Driver Safety policy PC.334.
