Requirements

  • Masters in Nursing Masters for all newly hired Clinical Education Specialist
  • 3 years in nursing
  • Registered Nurse License in work state
  • Certification applicable to Nursing specialty
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and evaluates evidence-based educational programs that enhance nursing knowledge, clinical competence, and professional growth.
  • Develops, provides, and assesses orientation, in-service training, and continuing education for clinical staff.
  • Serves as a role model, mentor, and coach to promote professional accountability and lifelong learning.
  • Facilitates career development and succession planning through guidance, coaching, and individualized learning plans.
  • Promotes professional advancement by encouraging certification, continuing education, and participation in shared governance.
  • Supports clinical ladder engagement.
  • Precepts graduate students.
  • Serves as a role model and mentor for evidence-based clinical decision-making.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership in fostering a culture of excellence, respect, and collaboration.
  • Builds partnerships with nursing leadership, interdisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders to align educational initiatives with organizational goals
  • Encourages teamwork and open communication to enhance knowledge sharing and practice improvement.
  • Serves as a change agent.
  • Integrates current research and best practices into educational content and clinical initiatives.
  • Provides leadership in the development of policies and procedures, Standards of Care and protocols essential to the delivery of care.
  • Promotes a culture of inquiry by guiding staff in identifying , appraising, and applying evidence to practice
  • Participates in or leads research and quality improvement projects that advance nursing practice and patient outcomes.
  • Uses data-driven approaches to assess educational needs and evaluate outcomes of learning interventions
  • Collaborates with leadership to identify performance gaps and implement targeted education plans to improve patient care quality and safety
  • Applies continuous improvement models (e.g., Plan-Do-Study-Act) to drive measurable change in practice.
  • Audits practice identifying practice and learning gaps.
  • Supports r egulatory and Accreditation Compliance; Ensures all educational activities and competency programs align with regulatory, licensing, and accrediting body requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, ANCC, CMS).
  • The Clinical Education Specialist serves as a clinical resource for all levels of nursing staff.
  • Complies with policies and p rocedures concerning infection control and safety in order to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.

  • Provides consultation about therapeutic regimens to the Nursing staff responsible for the patient's care in the Hospital setting.
  • Assists in the evaluation of the treatment and health care plan for effectiveness and recommends modification per clinical nursing standards and practice patterns.
  • Assesses clinical skills and learning needs of nursing personnel in conjunction with Patient Care Director and assigned preceptor.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates learning experiences.
  • Utilizes learning management systems (LMS), data analytics, and digital tools to track learning outcomes and assess competency trends.
  • Leverages technology to support knowledge dissemination, documentation, and continuing education tracking.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of continuing education and staff development activities
  • Supports preparation for surveys and audits through compliance-focused education and documentation.
  • Runs reports for compliance on education and competency.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written communication through clear, concise, and well-organized educational materials, policies, and correspondence
  • Develops high-quality instructional content, manuals, lesson plans, and reports that reflect current evidence-based practices and align with institutional standards.
  • Competent to write abstracts and documentation supporting Magnet and PTAP standards for ANCC application.
  • Serves as a Nurse Planner , utilizing American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation / Continuing Education Approval Program (ANCC-COA) criteria to assess needs, plan, implement, and evaluate continuing nursing education activities eligible for continuing education credit.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in completing and submitting CNE applications for approval in compliance with ANCC standards.
  • Supports the shared governance model.
  • Facilitates staff involvement in shared governance and hospital wide committees.
  • Maintains active engagement in council membership, serves as a co-chair to a council and committees.
  • Understands the Magnet Program and integration of Magnet standards into the nursing department infrastructure.
  • Assists with driving the Magnet Model components of transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge and innovations, and works to support projects addressing empirical outcomes.
  • The nurse leader will participate in the culture of mentorship, succession planning, and drive professional development for themselves and their team.
