About The Position

Bay Cove Human Services’ mission is to partner with people to overcome challenges and realize personal potential. Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts. Job Summary: The Clinical Director leads the design and delivery of culturally competent, evidence-based services rooted in harm reduction and a trauma-responsive approach, for a large 24-hour treatment program. The Clinical Director contributes to Bay Cove’s mission by ensuring services challenge stigma, promote long-term wellness, and honor the dignity and autonomy of each individual as they pursue their goals. This is an exempt position.

Requirements

A minimum of a master's degree in one of the following disciplines or a closely related field is required: clinical psychology, education-counseling, medicine, mental health, psychology, psychiatric nursing, rehabilitative counseling, or social work.
Independent clinical licensure in Massachusetts, such as Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (LADC I), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
At least two (2) years of supervised substance use disorder counseling experience required.
At least one year of full time equivalent clinical supervisory experience required.
Intermediate proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps required.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills are expected.
Demonstrated commitment to harm reduction, social justice, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care required.
Knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, affirming practices, and community-based treatment models required.
Utilizes a flexible and responsible work style that meets evolving needs of the agency.
Works with integrity and respects the dignity and value of all individuals.

Must be able to enter and navigate various physical environments, including multi-story buildings.
Ability to use a computer, tablet, and mobile phone for data entry, communication, and record-keeping.
Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., sitting at a desk or in meetings) for extended periods while completing documentation and administrative tasks.
Frequent and clear communication with individuals, colleagues, and partners, requiring the ability to exchange accurate information in person, by phone, and in writing.
Occasional lifting or carrying of program materials, supplies, or small equipment (up to 20 pounds).
Ability to provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and overdose rescue (naloxone administration) if needed.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data-informed management preferred.
Bilingual/bicultural strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead and continually develop the clinical direction of substance use treatment services.
Promote and model a person-centered, harm reduction approach to care.
Guide the design and implementation of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based interventions.
Supervise a large clinical team, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality services.
Facilitate regular case consultations, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Support staff wellness and retention through reflective supervision and inclusive leadership.
Ensure programs meet all local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2), and accreditation standards.
Oversee clinical documentation, audits, and internal review processes.
Implement outcome-based quality improvement plans and monitor program efficacy.
Collaborate with medical, psychiatric, case management, and peer support teams.
Serve as a liaison to external partners, funders, and regulatory bodies.
Provide on-call clinical support and guidance during off-hours on a rotating basis.
