About The Position

Expectations: The Clinical Dietitian must meet the legal requirement, satisfactory completion of an examination, approved by Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing agency of the American Dietetic Association. The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for patient care activities including but not limited to the following: provide Medical Nutrition Therapy, provision of nutritional and dietary counseling (modified diets and Food and Drug interactions), conducting of nutritional and dietary assessments, and development of nutritional and dietary treatments, including therapeutic diets. The Clinical Dietitian participates in the department and hospital Performance Improvement activities, serves as a liaison between nursing units and the department, and performing other duties as assigned. This position may require flexibility of hours. EDUCATION: If successfully completed the examination of a Registered Dietitian (RD) before 1/1/2024: A Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Food, and Nutrition from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university; Completion of a didactic dietetics program; completion of a supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. If successfully completed the examination of a Registered Dietitian (RD) on or after 1/1/2024: A Master's degree in Dietetics, Food, and Nutrition from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university; Completion of a didactic dietetics program; completion of a supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable of the regulatory standards.
  • The registered dietitian shall provide comprehensive multidisciplinary process for assuring timely and optimal nutrition care of all patients. Nutrition care standards include: Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition Diagnosis, Nutrition Intervention, and Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation, and Education.
  • Current Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Certification issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • If successfully completed the examination of a Registered Dietitian (RD) before 1/1/2024: A Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Food, and Nutrition from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university; Completion of a didactic dietetics program; completion of a supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

  • New Graduates prior to becoming a Registered Dietitian must function within Scope of Practice Business Code in State of California.
  • New Graduates prior to becoming a Registered Dietitian MAY NOT ACCEPT VERBAL OR ELECTRONIC ORDERS AND MAY NOT ORDER LABORATORY TESTS.
  • The person may practice for 6 month from the date of completion of a supervised program unless the person fails the credentialing examination within that 6 month period.
  • The person must be supervised by a Registered Dietitian during the 6 month of period.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of acute hospital clinical experience is preferred.
  • Registered Dietitian assigned in Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit shall be CCS paneled and will have at least two years of clinical dietetic experience and one year of pediatric experience with training in nutrition services for children with special health care needs.

  • provide consultation on medical nutrition therapy issues to medical professionals providing care in the pediatric service(s)/department(s) and to the patients and their families.
  • Nutritional assessment, diet calculation, and the provision of medical nutrition therapy.
  • Coordination of nutritional services with community agencies.
  • Planning and oversight of prescribed medical diets and approval of all pediatric menus.
  • Participation in pediatric case conferences and discharge planning activities.
