About The Position

Emory & Henry University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. This position is a non-tenure-track, clinical faculty role focused on high-quality instruction, applied learning, and student mentorship in exercise science and related health disciplines. The Clinical Assistant Professor will contribute to the academic mission by delivering practice-oriented instruction, supervising experiential learning (e.g., internships, practicums, or clinical placements), and fostering partnerships with healthcare, fitness, and community organizations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student success, applied pedagogy, and collaborative engagement across academic and clinical settings.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or closely related field (Doctorate preferred for some programs)
  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical, applied, or field-based exercise science practice
  • Evidence of effective teaching or training experience (academic or professional setting)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or related) in Exercise Science or a related discipline
  • Experience supervising student internships or clinical placements
  • Experience with accreditation standards and outcomes assessment
  • Collegiate teaching experience in exercise science or related field
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary healthcare or wellness environments

Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Instruction Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in exercise science, including areas such as: Exercise physiology Strength and conditioning Kinesiology/biomechanics Clinical exercise testing and prescription Health and wellness promotion Deliver applied, hands-on instruction in laboratory and clinical settings Incorporate evidence-based practices and current industry standards into curriculum Utilize innovative and student-centered teaching methodologies
  • Clinical & Experiential Education Coordinate and/or supervise internships, practicums, and clinical placements Develop and maintain partnerships with external clinical and community sites Ensure compliance with accreditation, safety, and professional standards Mentor students in professional skill development and career readiness
  • Program & Institutional Service Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation Contribute to accreditation efforts (e.g., ACSM, NSCA, or other relevant bodies, if applicable) Serve on departmental, school, and university committees Support recruitment, retention, and student engagement initiatives
  • Professional Engagement Maintain active engagement in the field through clinical practice, certifications, or professional development Participate in professional organizations (e.g., American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association) Stay current with emerging trends in exercise science and allied health
