About The Position

The Clinical Assistant / Mental Health Technician (CA/MHT) plays a critical role in supporting the daily operations of a residential treatment program for adolescent girls. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while providing direct support to residents and the clinical team. The CA/MHT helps reinforce program expectations, supports therapeutic interventions, and contributes to a positive and consistent milieu. The Head CA/MHT serves as a lead role, providing guidance and support to CA/MHT staff while assisting leadership in maintaining consistency, safety, and accountability across the unit. This individual helps coordinate daily operations, supports staff development, and serves as a point of contact during shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required
  • One year of experience in a mental health care setting preferred, ideally as a Mental Health Technician, Clinical Assistant, or Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Relevant education in a mental health or human services field may substitute for experience
  • Ability to obtain CPR certification and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) certification
  • Demonstrated experience in a mental health or residential setting
  • Proven ability to lead by example and support team members in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage adolescents in a supportive and structured manner
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and respect for the dignity of others

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and support to residents in a residential treatment setting
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by monitoring behavior and ensuring compliance with program rules
  • Assist in de-escalation and management of residents exhibiting unsafe or inappropriate behaviors, including participation in approved physical interventions when necessary
  • Observe, document, and report resident behavior, significant events, and required clinical information accurately and timely
  • Assist clinicians and therapists with patient care tasks and therapeutic activities
  • Support daily routines including meals, hygiene, group participation, and transitions throughout the day
  • Perform basic clerical and administrative duties to support program operations
  • Demonstrate teamwork and flexibility in completing assigned duties and supporting overall program needs
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and model positive behavior for residents
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to CA/MHT staff during assigned shifts
  • Assist in assigning tasks and ensuring appropriate staff coverage and patient supervision
  • Serve as a resource for staff during escalations or challenging situations
  • Support onboarding and training of new staff members
  • Monitor documentation and workflow for accuracy and consistency
  • Communicate effectively with nursing, clinical, and leadership teams regarding unit operations and concerns
  • Help maintain accountability and adherence to program expectations among staff
