The University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time clinical-track position in Soft Tissue Surgery (Small Animal) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position provides opportunities to participate in clinical and bench-top research, as well as teaching and clinical service. The candidate will be expected to participate in professional lecture and laboratory courses as well as help mentor Residents and Graduate students in our combined 4-year residency program. Development of the candidate's area of clinical investigation and publication is encouraged. The working environment is supportive and cordial with established mentorship for new faculty. The UF Small Animal Hospital enterprise spans 3 locations, over 20 specialty services, 90 small animal clinicians, 120 small animal house officers, 427 clinical support staff (346 support the small animal operations) and 63,847 small animal patients in FY24. The small animal hospital in Gainesville is a Level 1 Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society (VECCS) certified facility and an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited hospital. The UFVH has a $59M annual operating budget. The UFVH supports a growing Clinical Trials program and the most sophisticated and integrated Patient Quality and Safety program in academic medicine. Gainesville is a dynamic and versatile university community with excellent school and health care systems and a multitude of nearby recreational opportunities. The Soft Tissue and Minimally Invasive Surgery Service is comprised of a team of board-certified veterinarians specialized in Soft Tissue and Minimally Invasive Surgery (4 faculty clinicians, 9 surgery residents, 1 surgical intern). An ACVS fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is offered annually and is supported by two ACVS fellows. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help train our fellow candidates as well as participate in an ACVS MIS fellowship themselves if desired. Responsibilities will include didactic teaching and clinical training of professional students, graduate students & residents and participation in service activities of the Small Animal Surgery Service in the UF Small Animal Hospital. This facility offers advanced diagnostics such as digital radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, and MRI. The small animal hospital is a state-of-the-art facility with 12 operating rooms offering full complement of equipment and procedures such as Karl Storz laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery, near-infrared imaging fluorescence capabilities, vessel sealing devices (Ligasure and Harmonic scalpel), a Neuwave microwave ablation unit, laser and a state-of-the-art Catheter lab including a Phillips Azurion 7, ceiling mounted C-arm with 185-degree RAO and 120-degree LAO image acquisition. The candidate is welcome to participate in our well-established interventional radiology program. UF also has an open-heart surgical program with fellowship training.
