About The Position

The Clinic Supervisor performs and oversees the aspects of the clinic medical process at the Kansas Humane Society performed by the Veterinary Assistants. Provide quality medical care for the animals in our care, inventory control of shelter’s medical supplies, fill and administer medications, evaluate patient progress, work with each department to serve animal medical needs, and educate clients, volunteers, and externs on medical conditions and health.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Registered Vet Tech preferred or equivalent Veterinary Assistant experience.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain status as a KHS Certified Euthanasia Technician.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: High degree of customer service skills, flexibility, conflict resolution, and team building.
  • Knowledge of data entry, Microsoft programs, and phone etiquette.
  • Training and/or teaching experience.
  • SKILLS/ABILITIES: Attention to detail a must.
  • Should be able to work as a member of a team, and independently.
  • Should be able to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to lead a team is a must.
  • A respect for the human/animal bond is a must.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently is crucial.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare statistics for analysis is required.

Nice To Haves

  • EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Registered Vet Tech preferred or equivalent Veterinary Assistant experience.
  • Three years of leadership/management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Staff and Volunteer Management: Supervise Veterinary Assistants and volunteers carry out their daily duties.
  • Coach, mentor, and train staff and volunteers.
  • Interview and hire all Veterinary Assistant roles.
  • Conduct performance evaluations as required, prepare staffing schedules and approve time clock entries.
  • Ensure keys and security key cards are current and updated based on appropriate access throughout the shelter.
  • Animal Care: Promote the humane care and treatment of animals.
  • Perform basic exam, and understand normal vs. abnormal, and bring abnormal findings to the attention of the DVM.
  • Test specimens through a variety of methods and read the results.
  • Fill prescriptions.
  • Administer medication.
  • Provide treatment assistance.
  • Monitor animal well-being while in our care.
  • Perform appropriate and safe animal handling.
  • Uphold hospital standards honestly and ethically.
  • Accurately complete forms and records so that communication within and between departments is clear.
  • Good understanding of KHS preventative health care policies.
  • Maintain a clean environment for both animals and people in the KHS Clinic.
  • Program Management: Provide continued support and evaluation of existing Clinic programs: Donor Subsidized Spay/Neuter, TNR day, all Externship Programs (surgical and technician), and Clinic volunteer program.
  • Quality Medical and Surgical Care Assessment: Perform routine audits of procedures and practices, including weekly drug audits.
  • Support the continued development and implementation of Clinic SOM and Training Materials.
  • Develop and implement adverse event tracking review system.
  • Track, manage, and order clinic inventory and supplies.
  • Resource Management: Serve as steward of KHS resources.
  • Utilize staff, volunteer and monetary resources effectively.
  • Prioritize to accomplish task(s) that are most critical to the agency.
  • Inventory supplies and anticipate needs for the Clinic Department.
  • Capacity Management: Monitor numbers of animals scheduled for surgery, exams and foster checks.
  • Triage to assure that animal needs are met within the capacity of care KHS has to offer.
  • Fill in for staff as needed when emergencies arise or understaffed.
  • Customer Service: Provide and model timely, polite, and respectful internal and external customer service regardless of the circumstances.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local veterinarians and other special interest groups to ensure a good working partnership with area businesses.
  • Must remain calm, flexible, and willing to see other perspectives.
  • Provide recognition and support to both staff and volunteers for their individual contributions to our agency.
  • Represent the Clinic in shelter meetings and lead team meetings.
  • Host tours of DVMs, vendors, special groups, rescues and others to educate on the mission/vision of KHS.
  • Clerical: Ensure accurate, complete, and concise entry of medical and surgical exam findings, test results, and vaccination history, using PetPoint.
  • Ensure medical and surgical appointments are scheduled.
  • Make charts and graphs using Excel for tracking & trending purposes.
  • Ensure templates are created and up to date to provide accurate documentation in PetPoint for any and all medical discoveries.
  • Maintains accurate Drug Log records.
  • Provides clerical assistance to other clinic staff as time allows.
  • Training: Assist the Director of Clinic Operations with development and maintenance of training procedures.
  • Implement departmental training for Clinic staff.
  • Participates in staff training and development opportunities as requested.
  • Participates in special events, projects, and cross training programs as needed.
