About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neurosurgery Clinic provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in an outpatient, clinic-only setting. This role supports neurosurgeons and advanced practice providers by coordinating patient care, performing clinical assessments, providing education, and facilitating efficient clinic operations. The RN serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of NC.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience (outpatient, specialty, or acute care).
  • Strong assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, spine, or surgical specialties.
  • Outpatient clinic or ambulatory care experience.
  • Experience with patient education and care coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient intake assessments, including medical history review, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and symptom evaluation.
  • Assist providers during clinic visits, procedures, and examinations as appropriate.
  • Triage patient concerns via phone, patient portal, or in person, using clinical judgment and established protocols.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and escalate concerns to providers as needed.
  • Administer medications and injections per clinic protocols and provider orders.
  • Perform wound checks, suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and postoperative follow-up care as indicated.
  • Coordinate pre-visit, post-visit, and follow-up care for neurosurgery patients.
  • Assist with scheduling diagnostic tests, imaging, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative education, including expectations, restrictions, and warning signs.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including imaging, physical therapy, pain management, and primary care providers.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and postoperative care.
  • Reinforce provider instructions and ensure patient understanding.
  • Advocate for patient needs and support shared decision-making.
  • Accurately document patient interactions, assessments, and care provided in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with clinic policies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinic workflow optimization.
