About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Clinic Chief Tech position in PET Imaging Center who will w ork with the Director of the PET Imaging Center and Chief of Nuclear Medicine to manage clinical operation of the PET Imaging Center. Additionally, they will directly supervises the PET Clinic Lead and PET Administrative Lead and oversees all clinic staff to provide efficient and safe patient care. This position collaborates closely with physicians, technologists, administrative teams, and external vendors to support clinical excellence. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in nuclear medicine.
  • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in PET.
  • Certification as a Nuclear Medical Technologist by the Iowa Public Health Department as documented by an Iowa Permit to Practice (IPP).
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to facilitate liaison with colleagues and trial collaborators.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong background in Nuclear Medicine and PET
  • At least five years of experience in dedicated positron emission tomography (PET) with progressively independent responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex PET examinations.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and implement new projects in PET that advance new clinical applications or research endeavors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain adherence to written procedures and clinical and regulatory standards applicable to clinical trials and clinical imaging.

  • Administrative or managerial experience associated with nuclear medicine or PET (i.e. reimbursement/pre-approval, patient/employee scheduling, ordering of radiopharmaceuticals).

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Staff Management: · Directly supervises two Lead Technologists providing consistent communication, clear expectations, and operational support · Oversees all clinical staff to ensure patient care excellence · Conducts annual performance evaluations for direct reports and provides input for clinic staff evaluations · Recruits and hires clinical and research staff · Assists with orientation and onboarding of new staff. Help ensure orientation is complete and successful. · Provide guidance and coaching to staff and students to assure outcomes are achieved.
  • Provide Specialty Patient Care: · Perform clinical PET examinations in times of significant clinical need. · When necessary, interact professionally with patient/family. Provide liaison between medical staff and patients, patients’ families, and hospital staff. · Evaluate equipment performance, recognize image artifacts, and initiate corrective action · Develop, implement, and evaluate technology required for new procedures. · Implement process improvements to ensure efficiency safety and high-quality patient care · Play an active role in monthly technologist meeting · Model service excellence key behaviors and assure staff participation in departmental/hospital initiatives. · Coordinate daily research workflow with clinical workflow. Anticipate potential problems if/when schedules are running late. · Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organization standards
  • Provide Education: · Develop and encourage staff to strengthen technical, professional and patient care skills. Assist with setting goals for staff and provide feedback in a positive manner. · Work with Clinical Instructors to facilitate clinical education. · Oversee training of current and new technologists. Work with clinic and admin lead to ensure their competency in all procedures performed and with all equipment they use.
  • Collaborate/Communicate with Health Care Team: · Communicate in a positive manner with physicians, staff and other units or departments on a regular basis to promote effective and efficient operations within the department. Promote a positive work environment. · Deal effectively with concerns or complaints from patients, research subjects, physicians and staff. · Engage staff to meet departmental or institutional goals. Communicate with staff in a positive manner to support initiatives and encourage staff participation. · Provide consistent leadership, guidance, and support to nurses, receptionists and staff technologists. Provide knowledge or information that engages staff in processes. · Work with PET radiochemistry team to assure proper timing and coordination of in-house radiopharmaceutical production for research studies. · Coordinate radiopharmaceutical ordering with outside pharmacies, ensuring timely delivery. · Facilitate new exam, protocol, and radiotracer build requests in EPIC · Review and rectify invoices for doses from outside radiopharmacies · Obtain Quarterly 340B and WAC pricing from vendors · Main administrator for the Nuclear Medicine Information System.
