About The Position

Functions as a member of the Rehabilitation team. Secures patient account for scheduled outpatient therapy procedures by obtaining appropriate demographic, insurance, and medical information Obtains precertification authorization from insurance companies for patients with scheduled outpatient therapy services. Identifies and contacts patients’ insurance companies for eligibility and exclusions; provides patient’s medical records as requested for authorization; enters authorization codes as appropriate into clinic EMR and Meditech.. Mon-Fri hours. No weekends.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy preferred
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, and customer service

Responsibilities

  • Obtains orders for therapy services, call to schedule patients, book appointments in Meditech and pre-register in clinic EMR.
  • Collects and enters accurate demographic and financial data for patients who have been scheduled for outpatient therapy services and submits prior authorization requests to patient’s insurance company as needed.
  • Verifies all insurance coverages using AccuReg or website and/or a telephone call and documents in the clinic EMR and Meditech the prior authorization information from the insurance company using proper codes.
  • Interacts with patients if necessary to cancel or reschedule therapy services if appropriate insurance information or documentation is in question or cannot be obtained. Answers patients’ questions regarding insurance coverage or prior authorization requirements.
  • Obtain and complete information for motor vehicle accident, school accident, and workman’s compensation claim and notes the information in Meditech.
  • Accurately estimates the patient financial liability (copayments, deductibles, coinsurances, deposits, etc. via obtaining accurate demographic and financial information).
  • Discusses patient financial responsibility and request co-payments as appropriate.
  • Receives and processes patient payments. Properly receipting and forwarding all copies of patient payment receipts posting to the patient’s account in appropriate system.
  • Answer’s patient inquiries regarding their liability and able to explain the variables involved.
  • Performs basic clerical duties including photocopying, sorting, and filing of reports. Updates patient demographics in EMR if inaccuracies are found.
  • Communicates with Therapy Providers regarding all pertinent changes, updates, or correspondences of or related to the prior authorization process or insurance requirements.
  • Participates in orientation, training, and cross training for new employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
