About The Position

Lead Create staff schedules, provide training, troubleshoot issues, and order supplies. Coordinate day-to-day operations of the department for their assigned shift, and act as a technical supervisor in the absence of the supervisor. Provide feedback regarding employee hiring, evaluations, hiring, counseling, and corrective action. Complete quality reports. Prepare the department for inspections and ensure the department meets regulatory and safety requirements. Any such duties needed to keep the area running smoothly and perform the work in an accurate, organized, and timely manner. This position is responsible for training staff members on the day/evening shift and providing the proper instruction new employees need to complete their training list. Troubleshoots and documents any issues that come up in the day/evening shift and reports directly to their supervisor any and all issues that arise. Coordinating lunches and breaks to ensure the area has coverage at all times when the supervisor is not present in the area, and reporting any conflicts or issues directly to their supervisor. Proactively monitors and communicates case delays to Client Services, pathologists, and other required parties Maintains and fosters a positive, ethical, and professional environment in the lab. AP Accessions: Prepare Anatomic Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations, such as staging of slides, blocks, other specimens, and report preparation. Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and documents problem specimens. Ensure that pathology reports for all case types meet required standards. CP Accessions/ Processing: Prepare Clinical Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory alysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as the staging of specimens, centrifuge, separating serum, and blood smears. Aliquot samples for departments. Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and documents problem specimens. Registration Collects patient and insurance information and ensures required details are included on the forms. This position also verifies and confirms insurance information. Triage: Receive and record all specimens/slides/blocks into the daily receipt log, which includes checking bins in Shands Clinical Lab periodically throughout the day for additional samples. Pre-accession specimens, order tests, print out labels, and attach to paperwork and specimen container, print Test Order form - then deliver to appropriate lab and specimen to designated location. Forwards a copy of the report to the appropriate in-house physician/lab. Intake/Slide control: Receive and track slides/cases from UF Health Pathology satellite laboratories. Distribute slides to the appropriate Pathologist. Maintain records of slides received and their distribution points. Assist UF Health Pathology Laboratories' intake personnel in locating slides that have been distributed to Pathologists. Return and track slides to UF Health Pathology satellite laboratory. Maintain records of slides returned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and four years of medical office experience, which includes the knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines as well as basic medical terminology
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.
