As the Client Director, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients, and for leading business growth specifically in Southern California and surrounding geographies. This role involves capturing industry-leading market share in various Water work and achieving objectives while providing start-to-finish project responsibility. You will also manage all aspects of Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) service projects, including risk to cost, schedule, and quality. Black & Veatch’s Governments & Communities sector focuses on the infrastructure needs of municipalities, state and local governments, and specialized physical and digital infrastructure solutions for government and federal agencies. The team partners with customers to align their people, processes, technologies, and data analytics to modernize water infrastructure, optimize asset use, meet performance goals, reduce costs, and mitigate risk. This team is highly ranked by ENR for Water Design Firms in Water Supply and Sewer Waste and has delivered large-scale projects such as the Pure Water Soquel Groundwater Replenishment and Seawater Contamination Prevention project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search), in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • 15 + years of active water/wastewater experience with demonstrated leadership experience in the Southern California market.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical discipline.
  • Understanding of budgets and financial metrics.
  • Contract negotiation skill including knowledge of terms, risks, pricing and payment terms.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and/or maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Lead business development efforts including marketing, strategy development, prospect identification, proposal development, proposal preparation, client presentations, project budgeting, and contracting for successful opportunities.
  • Develop new business, specifically leading business growth in Southern California and surrounding geographies.
  • Capture industry-leading market share of various Water work and achieve objectives while providing start to finish project responsibility.
  • Manage all aspects of an Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) service project including risk to cost, schedule and quality.
  • Be accountable for new business objectives and for overall project performance.
  • Interact with assigned clients, become involved in client activities, and promote Black & Veatch through client and community activities.
  • Support development of the overall market business plan, market strategies, and client engagement strategies.
  • Leverage other Black & Veatch technical and management resources to advance Black & Veatch’s market footprint.
  • Provide oversight of engineering manager(s).
  • Develop project performance goals and ensure their implementation.
  • Actively involve with internal project team and owner project representatives on project activities.
  • Perform or assist with the performance and commercial management of projects including budgeting, invoicing, and payments.
  • Lead project performance reviews for assigned project(s).
  • Engage in team development, mentoring, and coaching on performance improvement.
  • Make recommendations for training and promotion of assigned professionals.
  • Identify and develop new candidates to expand the Black & Veatch team.
