Pierce Transit's Finance division is currently recruiting for a part-time, Clerical Assistant ( Money Counter ). The scheduled hours for this position are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:00am to 4:30pm, subject to change based upon operational needs. With supervision and direction, performs general, routine clerical and/or revenue processing duties. Individuals in this position are responsible for completing a variety of duties related to processing fares, creating bank deposits and other clerical responsibilities of a regular and recurring nature. These duties may involve different and unrelated processes and methods. Routine assignments are carried out independently when procedures are learned. Performance is reviewed by observation of daily activities, quality of work and verbal exchange. Work situations are covered by well-defined policies, procedures and performance standards. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One-year recent clerical, office or money handling experience.
  • Must have working knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling rules.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and a variety of software.
  • Ability to be bonded and to pass a criminal history background investigation.
  • Knowledge of: General office practices and procedures
  • Spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Telephone and interpersonal etiquette.
  • Ability to: Operate cash handling equipment
  • Organize materials and workflow
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions and apply available guidelines to recurring operational requirements
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Agency staff and a culturally diverse public in a manner that promotes a positive image of the Agency
  • Communicate effectively, clearly and concisely
  • Effectively use computer word processing, database, and spreadsheet software
  • Work with minimal supervision and direction
  • Come in as needed

Responsibilities

  • Uses a combination of manual and mechanical processes to count currency and coin collected from fareboxes.
  • Maneuvers rolling vaults to align with coin sorter machine, unloads coin into sorter via coin belt to sort and bag coin.
  • Moves coin bags to vault.
  • Empties currency from bins in rolling vaults to table for straightening, sorting, counting and banding.
  • Moves currency to vault.
  • Excess currency not counted is placed in bags and stored in vault.
  • Prepares bank deposit by filling out deposit slip and cash reconciliation form.
  • Places deposit of cash and coin on table for pick up by armored car service.
  • Inputs data into computer system, makes routine corrections or adjustments to inputted data.
  • Operates standard office equipment such as copier, adding machine, phones, cash handling equipment and computers with data processing and word processing capabilities.
  • Picks up and delivers items to the accounting department and/or other locations as specifically instructed.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
