About The Position

We are hiring for a temporary Driver, Class B t o join the Transportation Department at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Our partners include food pantries, congregate meal sites, shelters, childcare facilities, senior centers, group homes, and youth enrichment programs. What you’ll do: Class B CDL’s transports vehicles, and equipment throughout Second Harvest’s network of Distribution Centers while maintaining reporting, operations, safety, and other duties as assigned by management. The driver maintains a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the organization and a favorable image of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED required.
  • 1+ year of professional driving experience.
  • Maintain valid CDL Class B license.
  • Maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification.
  • Safely and effectively operate a Commercial vehicle.
  • Make accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Apply, interpret, and explain policies and procedures.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Work effectively as a team member.
  • Maintain documentation and records.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Read maps and schedules and adhere to route schedules.
  • Successfully complete required tasks in electronic route management system (tablets)
  • Current driver’s license with copy of current auto insurance and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) results required.

Responsibilities

  • Transports and delivers a variety of products and materials.
  • Load donations utilizing proper storage methods and procedures.
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles containing a variety of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Operates Commercial vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Regularly checks vehicles’ fluid levels, tire pressure and cleanliness according to Daily Vehicle Inspections.
  • Reports potential safety issues and service needs to equipment Lead.
  • Maintains transportation areas and warehouse equipment in a neat, clean, orderly, and safe manner.
  • Operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Maintain positive and successful working relationships with agency customers and donors.
  • Observes OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Follow all company and regulatory agency safety policies.
  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Drives defensively.
  • Reports any unsafe equipment or working conditions to supervisor.
  • Reports any needed repairs or special maintenance to Equipment Supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains a clean and functional vehicle.
  • Follows the regular vehicle maintenance schedule, as provided by Equipment Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
