Job Description We are seeking a Summer 2026 Claims Intern for our North America Claims team in our New York City office. The Internship Program is a 10-week development initiative designed to provide professional growth with potential long-term opportunity for successful individuals interested in the Insurance/Reinsurance industry. You will learn with other Claims Interns how to investigate and maintain claims. Claims Interns will learn to gain proficiency in utilization of claims policies and guidelines, as well as how the Claims Department protects corporate assets by ensuring the fair handling and prompt payment of legitimate claims. This role will focus on the use of the Claims data, thereby combining Claims knowledge and data/excel skills. What can I expect as an Intern? On-the-job Learning Insurance requires a high degree of experience and expertise – something you can’t learn in the classroom. Sompo interns are immersed in the day-to-day activities of their team, to keep the underwriting and global claims team current on loss trends and market intelligence, ensure timely and accurate reporting of exposure to underwriting and management, and ensure reports are timely prepared and disseminated. Activities, Learning and Development Throughout the program, Interns will have the opportunity to hear from executive leaders, participate in structured, engaging leadership learnings, participate in networking events and activities with peers, members of our Executive team and outside brokerage firms, and be part of a project to present to their manager and mentor.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program for the full duration of the internship with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Rising Junior or Senior for Summer 2026
  • Genuine interest in developing a career in the insurance industry
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to team projects
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly through written and verbal communication
  • Solution-oriented mindset and data analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and tech-savvy (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Local to the desired office location or able to arrange housing and transportation in the area to support an in-office working arrangement during the internship
  • Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction
