About The Position

The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses. This position is with the Workers' Compensation Division (WCD). WCD administers, regulates, and enforces the laws and administrative rules governing the Oregon workers' compensation system. This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Due to the nature of the duties performed by this position, telework is not available.

Requirements

  • Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents OR An associate degree in any field OR An equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience coding or working with North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, Standard Occupational Code (SOC) or Occupational Injury and Illness Classification (OIIC) codes
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Experience gathering information from multiple sources
  • Experience working with confidential information
  • Prior workers' compensation experience is helpful
  • Ability to organize work efficiently and to manage tasks with interruptions as well as manage a heavy workload with competing deadlines
  • Experience answering multi-line phones
  • Prior experience working as a receptionist

Responsibilities

  • As a Claims Coding Specialist/Reception Backup, you will process injured worker claim reports according to U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics (BLS) guidelines and other agency business needs, accurately enter information into the Claims Information System (CIS) and update information as necessary.
  • You will also provide assistance to the central reception position as necessary.
