We are currently seeking a General Civil Engineer Intern to join our Water Business Line in our San Francisco, CA office! The rate at which we’re seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires, is becoming more frequent. Role accountabilities: As a General Civil Engineer Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to various projects related to sea level rise adaptation. Your responsibilities will include supporting senior engineers and others in planning and designing retrofit and operational measures to reduce flood risk to coastal waterfront facilities such piers and wharves, surface and underground transit systems; drainage, sewer and dry utility systems; emergency operations facilities; buildings; and public spaces. Your work will include drawing and sketching concepts using AutoCad and Bluebeam, preparing field notes, preparing presentation graphics, tabulating quantities for cost estimating, researching costs, record drawings, and construction materials, products, systems, means and methods. You will collaborate with civil engineers, coastal engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, urban designers, and others. In addition, you will be responsible for: Ensuring project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality, health and safety standards, and facilitating coordination for timely completion and submission of projects on time and budget. Working independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to accommodate collaboration with team members across the U.S. and internationally. Learning and using digital tools to enhance customer experience, team and client collaboration, and project delivery including configuration and deployment of SharePoint and Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and work ethic.
  • The initiative and ability to take on new projects and other challenges regularly.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented and flexible, with the ability to balance and address new challenges as they arise.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, and practices related to civil engineering.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Pursuing a BS in Civil, Environmental, or Structural Engineering, or another closely related academic discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or coursework in water management or related sectors.
  • EIT certification.
