Valmont is currently seeking a Design Engineering Intern to support our Lighting & Traffic Engineering team with key initiatives and process improvements. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role, including design codes and parameters impacting the sizing of lighting and traffic structures, and will work alongside subject matter experts in the field. Requirements

  • Rising junior or senior currently pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
  • Completion of Statics and Dynamics coursework
  • Proficiency with CAD applications, including the ability to convert drawings to 3D models
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience in Structural Analysis, Steel Design, and Strength of Materials, along with advanced CAD skills and design application experience is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop routine structural design calculations for traffic, lighting, and flag poles utilizing the AASHTO, AISC, IBC, and ASCE 7 codes
  • Actively improve the design process by identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives
  • Present process improvement recommendations and initiatives to Sr. Engineers and other affected groups
  • Improve documentation and organization of engineering designs and specifications
  • Engage with manufacturing to improve knowledge of the final design
  • Update engineering documents with changes in specifications, processes, procedures, and design manuals
  • Troubleshoot potential design errors and provide resolution recommendations
