At the New York Power Authority, you will be empowered to think big, do good, and transform the energy industry. We are a collaborative team of over 2,400 energy technologists, IT specialists, business experts, hydro engineers, and diverse professionals leading the energy revolution. With state-of-the-art technology, advanced research and development, a modernized infrastructure, and a focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG), we provide New Yorkers with low-cost, clean, reliable power — and we are well on the way to becoming the first end-to-end digital utility in the country. As a Civil Engineering Developmental Intern, responsibilities include conducting site asphalt condition assessments to evaluate the integrity and performance of pavement structures. This involves identifying areas that require maintenance or repair to ensure long-lasting usability. Additionally, the intern will be engaged in signage and gate asset management, which entails cataloging and maintaining these critical assets to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards. Concrete rehabilitation efforts are also a key focus, requiring the intern to identify deteriorated concrete structures and propose suitable repair methods. Furthermore, the intern will be involved in drainage and water seepage assessments, determining the causes of water-related issues and recommending effective repair solutions. Conducting fieldwork to gather data is essential for the development of precise design details and drawings, which are critical for project planning and execution. This hands-on experience provides a comprehensive understanding of the various facets of civil engineering and its practical applications. Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 2 - August 7, 2026. As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career. Applications will close on February 15, 2026. If you are passionate about our mission – to lead the transition to a carbon-free, economically vibrant New York through customer partnerships, innovative energy solutions, community engagement and the responsible supply of affordable, clean, and reliable electricity, we are looking for you!
