Civil Engineer – Columbia, SC or Charlotte, NC Parrish & Partners is seeking a civil engineer or civil designer with 2+ years of general civil engineering experience in hydrology/hydraulics and/or roadway design. This position will work across multiple engineering disciplines and be responsible for performing a variety of design tasks associated with the firm’s transportation projects including interstates, interchanges, roadway widening, bridge replacements, and wet utility re-location projects. The individual should possess good communication skills, have the ability to solve difficult or complex technical problems, enjoy working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment, be able to work independently, and be capable of working with team members in multiple office locations.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in transportation, focusing on hydrology and/or roadway
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • EIT / EI registration (or passed FE exam)
  • Experience with MicroStation, GEOPAK, and OpenRoads Designer
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US with a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD/Civil 3D experience
  • Experience with basic hydrology/hydraulics software programs to include HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, HY8, etc.
  • Basic understanding of SCDOT and NCDOT standard drawings, specifications, and design criteria
  • Excellent math calculation skills
  • Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Responsibilities

  • Collecting and analyzing project data
  • Performing CAD design for roadway projects
  • Performing engineering design tasks related to drainage and stormwater design and modeling
  • Assisting in the development of plans, specifications, design calculations, and technical documents/reports for permitting
  • Assisting in the production of construction plan sets
  • Calculating quantities and developing cost estimates
  • Working with other design disciplines
  • Perform field data collection activities that may involve moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing in varied environments (wet, wooded, cold, hot/humid, noisy/high traffic)
  • Perform at a high level for 8 hours per day (typically 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and be willing to occasionally work additional hours when needed to accommodate project schedules and budgets. Occasional overnight travel may also be required.
