About The Position

Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join their Water Resources group in Northern, IL. CMT is a fast-growing firm with over 500 employees across 25 offices in 10 states, serving clients through four primary business groups: Aviation, Surface Transportation, Water Resources, and Building & Site Services. The firm provides engineering design, planning, environmental, and construction observation phase services on projects ranging from simple to complex. As a Water Resource Civil Engineer, this role involves working with senior staff to support a wide range of municipal infrastructure projects, including planning, design, permitting, and construction-phase services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Engineer Intern (EI) certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Strong attention to detail and technical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook; PowerPoint a plus).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work and construction-related duties as required.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to project meetings and job sites.

Nice To Haves

  • 0-4 years of Civil Engineering or relevant internship experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Exposure to water, wastewater, and/or stormwater design.
  • Experience with hydraulic or hydrologic modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • Support water, wastewater, and stormwater municipal infrastructure projects from planning through construction. Projects may include water main distribution and transmission mains, pump stations, sewer improvements, and stormwater studies.
  • Assist with engineering design, calculations, and preparation of construction documents.
  • Participate in field visits and provide construction observation, as needed.
  • Prepare technical memoranda and reports and contribute to project deliverables.
  • Assist with permitting efforts and coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members and external clients.
  • Attend project and team meetings and contribute ideas and solutions.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow professionally within the firm.
