About The Position

To further the mission of Girl Scout camp by serving as the primary mentor and caregiver for campers in the Leader in Training (LIT), Counselor in Training (CIT) and Junior Counselor (JC) program. The CIT director will plan and implement the LIT, CIT, and JC curriculum which will equip campers with the skills necessary to become camp counselors and leaders in their communities. Responsible for guiding campers in their personal growth and skill development. Also responsible for assisting with the oversight and training of JCs. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Be a role model to campers, LITs, CITs, JCs, and staff in your attitude, behavior, and following of camp procedures. Provide daily care for each participant within your supervision, supervising participants during both structured and unstructured times. Facilitate leadership lesson plans that meet and support camp and camper goals, adapting activities as necessary to create a progression based on the needs and experience of the participants. Set daily and session schedules for leadership camper programs. Evaluate CIT performance and readiness to serve as a JC or counselor throughout and at the end of camp by providing positive feedback and areas for development. Work with counselors and other staff to ensure LIT, CIT, and JC success when shadowing or assisting in a unit or activity area. Apply youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, aid in competency development, and build connections. Submit order requests for equipment/supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials. Ensure adherence to safety and risk management guidelines to maintain high standards of health, safety, and supervision for campers, CITs, JCs, and staff at all times. Responsible for ensuring that daily and weekly camp functions run in accordance with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) standards. Participate as a member of the camp leadership team to plan and supervise camp activities and the implementation of staff training including leading educational and training sessions for counselors. Support counseling staff with daily care and supervision of campers. Take the initiative to ensure that everyone has a great summer at camp. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Age 21 or older preferred.
  • Previous experience with children’s camps or working with children preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising staff members.
  • Previous experience creating schedules.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in facilitation and development of teen leadership programs.
  • Must become a member of Girl Scouts.
  • Must have belief in and/or ability to speak with conviction about the mission and values of Girl Scouts, be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law, and be aware of the needs of youth in our pluralistic society.
  • Must be able to pass State and National background checks.
  • Current certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED or willingness to obtain
