About The Position

The Department of Anesthesiology at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting a Chronic Pain Anesthesiologist. The primary focus of this position is an anesthesiologist with expertise in chronic pain patient care. Candidates for this position will primarily treat chronic pain patients 100% of time; or may be considered to split their clinical responsibilities to between the chronic pain area and providing clinical anesthesia care. Clinical and didactic teaching in pain management will be required. If appointed on the CHS track, duties will also include education and research components. The successful candidate will teach medical students, residents, and fellows. The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members. This position is full or part time, 80%-100% This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Clinical Professor or Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Assistant Professor or Professor (CHS) or Associate Professor (CHS) or Assistant Professor (CHS). The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Contact with vulnerable populations that are non-minors (does not pertain to physicians/providers who work with minors): This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.  The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Requirements

  • WI Medical license by start date of position
  • Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology by start date of position
  • Completion of Anesthesiology residency program, and certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology
  • Subspecialty fellowship training in pain management, and certified or eligible for certification by an appropriate specialty board for pain management by the start date of the position
  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges, by start date

Provide clinical care in the areas of chronic pain management in an outpatient clinic setting, and interventional pain treatment in an ambulatory procedure center, and/or regional pain care. In addition, work as an anesthesiologist providing anesthetic care to surgical patients either personally performing anesthesia or in an anesthesia team model. Balance of duties to be determined on an individual basis. Clinical teaching will be in the area of chronic pain management and/or regional pain management.
  • Major teaching responsibilities for residents and fellowsin the area of chronic pain management and/or regional pain management. Provide clinical care in the areas of chronic pain management in an outpatient clinic setting, and interventional pain treatment in an ambulatory procedure center, and/or regional pain care. In addition, work as an anesthesiologist providing anesthetic care to surgical patients either personally performing anesthesia or in an anesthesia team model. Balance of duties to be determined on an individual basis. Clinical teaching will be in the area of chronic pain management and/or regional pain management.
