About The Position

The CDC Foundation seeks a Chronic Disease Epidemiologist to support the Office of Statistics and Evaluation (OSE) within the Bureau of Community Health & Prevention (BCHAP) in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The Chronic Disease Epidemiologist provides epidemiologic support to programs within the Division of Community-based Prevention and Care (DCBPC). This epidemiologist will work closely with the Office of Community Health Workers, the Asthma Prevention and Control Program, the Community Health Alignment Program, and other programs within DCBPC to help meet data, surveillance, and evaluation needs and priorities. This includes conducting analysis using various clinical and population-based surveillance data, supporting program evaluation implementation, creating reports and other data communication products, supporting grant deliverables and other requirements, and other support as needed.

Requirements

  • MPH in epidemiology or biostatistics
  • At least two (2) years of relevant work experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field.
  • Superior knowledge of epidemiology study design and statistical methodology
  • Experience conducting data analyses using SAS and/or R
  • Experience with program evaluation design and implementation
  • Experience with a variety of statistical methods including multivariate linear and logistic regression
  • Experience with public health program data collection, including designing data collection tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Detail and process oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities

  • Experience with chronic disease preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and implementation of evaluation and analysis plans for the Office of Community Health Workers, the Asthma Prevention and Control Program, the Community Health Alignment Program, and other programs within DCBPC.
  • Conducting epidemiologic and statistical analyses using SAS and/or R within various clinical and population-based data sources, including hospital discharge database, mortality data, BRFSS, YRBS, YHS, and Community Health Equity Survey.
  • Supporting program and epi staff with grant activities and deliverables across the division, including data collection, analysis and grant reporting.
  • Consulting with other epidemiology staff on the use of appropriate statistical methods and interpretation/limitations of analyses.
  • Supporting communications to various stakeholders and audiences, including developing reports and creating data visualizations.
  • Supporting other priorities, strategies, initiatives across DCBPC, BCHAP, and OSE as needed.
