About The Position

The CDC Foundation seeks a Chronic Disease Senior Epidemiologist to support the Office of Statistics and Evaluation (OSE) within the Bureau of Community Health & Prevention (BCHAP) in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The Chronic Disease Senior Epidemiologist provides epidemiologic leadership and support to programs within the Division of Community-Based Prevention and Care (DCBPC). The Chronic Disease Senior Epidemiologist will work closely with the Cancer Initiatives Unit, Asthma Prevention and Control Program, and other programs within DCBPC to oversee implementation of comprehensive evaluation plans, lead surveillance efforts through analysis of various clinical and population-based surveillance datasets, ensure execution of grant evaluation activities and deliverables across several federal grants, and support other data and communication needs across the division as needed.

Requirements

  • Master of Public Health in epidemiology or biostatistics
  • At least five (5) years of relevant work experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field.
  • Superior knowledge of epidemiology study design and statistical methodology
  • Extensive experience with program evaluation design and implementation
  • Experience with federal grant reporting and deliverables
  • Experience conducting data analyses using SAS
  • Experience linking multiple data sets
  • Experience with a variety of statistical methods including multivariate linear and logistic regression
  • Experience with data visualization using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or ArcGIS
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Detail and process oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with asthma and/or cancer preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implement evaluation plans and strategies for Asthma Prevention and Control, Cancer Initiatives Unit, and other programs within DCBPC.
  • Develop and implement analytic plans and strategies to meet surveillance needs and priorities across DCBPC using multiple data sources, including hospital discharge database, mortality data, BRFSS, YRBS, YHS, Community Health Equity Survey.
  • Work closely with division and program leadership to coordinate and oversee grant activities and deliverables, including oversight, planning, data collection, task delegation, and reporting.
  • Support communications to various stakeholders and audiences, including developing reports and creating data visualizations.
  • Conduct epidemiological investigations of chronic diseases and related risk factors and provide data and evidence to assist in identifying and setting programmatic goals.
  • Conduct epidemiologic and statistical analyses using SAS
  • Support other priorities, strategies, initiatives across DCBPC, BCHAP, and OSE as needed.
