Fairfield Prep is currently seeking qualified candidates who are energetic and passionate educators for a part-time, academic-year position in the Visual & Performing Arts Department as a Choral Music Instructor. As an Ignatian Educator at Fairfield Prep, the Choral Music Instructor will be expected to: Instructional Duties Teach 2 sections per semester with the assistance of Prep’s Music Director as accompanist: Select Choir (approx. 30 singers): Upperclassman choir, performing easy to advanced difficulty repertoire Freshman Choir (approx. 25 singers): Non-auditioned freshman level performance chorus Teach choral singing, music notation, music reading and listening skills Utilize iPads in our 1:1 digital environment for instruction, practice tools, and student feedback Assess student progress and provide feedback in alignment with Fairfield Prep’s academic policies Develop engaging, standards-based lesson plans and student-centered rehearsal strategies Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of musical ability levels Collaborate with the VPA Department Chair, Director of Music, and faculty to coordinate rehearsal schedules and performance logistics Communicate clearly and professionally with students and families regarding rehearsals, performances, and expectations. Collaborate with the Campus Ministry team to facilitate all in-school Masses and liturgical needs Manage and program for combined choir performances at the two annual concerts Collaborate and direct approximately 10-12 performances per year (Masses, concerts, school events, etc.) Program & Departmental Support Lead choir at liturgies and community events, where appropriate Participate in department meetings, school-wide professional development, and the Ignatian Educator Formation Program Select repertoire, coordinate music purchases with the Director of Music, and manage performance space needs Support student recruitment and retention in the music program Coordinate with the Director of Music for travel and trip planning support for off-site performances Coordinate with the Director of Music for CMEA/Regional/All-State event support Commit to developing young men to become intellectually competent, religious, loving, committed to doing justice, and open to growth

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Candidates must have experience teaching vocal music in a high school or middle school setting. (Minimum 2 years preferred)
  • Ability to teach and conduct a wide range of vocal styles with musical excellence and pedagogical care
  • Proven musicianship skills in vocal performance and piano
  • Excellent classroom management skills with both small and large groups
  • Experience selecting diverse, appropriate, and engaging repertoire
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Willingness to support the school’s mission through spiritual, co-curricular, and community activities

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Jesuit or Catholic educational philosophy is highly desirable
