About The Position

The Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and statement of purpose. As such, each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord. The Manager of the Children’s Ministry is responsible to the Director of Programming to oversee all staff and programming for Sonshine Kids and Creation Station Ministry. As a manager, be conscientious and intentional as an ambassador for Christ and the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries. This is a B2 level, full-time employee position.

  • Utilize Emergency and Safety Training.

  • Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Exhibit spiritual maturity as defined by evangelical biblical standards and in accordance with the employee handbook.
  • Have a heart of compassion and caring toward the homeless and hurting and a passion about ministering life transformation in an urban setting.
  • Demonstrates a courteous and Christ-like manner with internal and external partners.
  • Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, rapid decisions; demonstrates excellent integrity.
  • Flexible, cooperative spirit.
  • Possess and promote a drug, nicotine free lifestyle.
  • Lift 30 pounds.
  • 2-5 years’ experience with growing responsibilities in childcare, childhood development, or early childhood education.
  • Minimum 5 years responsibility in a leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold, promote, and encourage desired organizational culture and values.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries.
  • Maintain a loving, peaceful, ministry-focused environment.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Children’s Ministry, including daily logs, reports, and files.
  • Incorporate biblical principles into interactions with parents, children, and other staff.
  • Acknowledge growth and use positive reinforcement with children, guests, and staff.
  • Hold children, guests, and staff accountable for inappropriate behavior and enforce discipline procedures according to the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries’ policies.
  • Schedule employee shifts and partner with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate employee hours via the tracking system.
  • Brief staff and departments about schedule and policy changes.
  • Conduct bi-weekly staff meetings within the Children’s Ministry.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Programs and Shelter Managers to promote consistency, build positive relationships, inform on schedule changes, and problem solve behavioral issues.
  • Guide and develop staff that will model and instill spiritual principles of community living and growth.
  • Attend program team meetings weekly and brief the team about any upcoming activities or changes.
  • Oversee the Christmas Room and incoming donations.
  • Facilitate the planning and packing of Christmas and birthday gifts for the children. Partner with the Shelter managers for planning and packing of Christmas gifts for adults.
  • Continue establishing and engaging with external partnerships.
  • Plan and organize summer programing and field trips for Children’s Ministry.
  • Help families enroll in school, establish transportation, and provide supplies. Partner closely with KPS homeless liaison and local schools to work towards student success.
