About The Position

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Child Support Services (CSS) - Cook Case Management Operations is seeking to hire a highly qualified and motivated professional to join our Central Region in the roll of Child Support Specialist Trainee. The candidate will participate in an agency sponsored training program for twelve months receiving training designed to develop knowledge and understanding the Child Support Services program and its policies and processes. Additionally, the candidate will learn the process of completing calculations of financial obligations and support balances related to child support accounts along with understanding the use of the statewide database systems, Comptroller system, State Disbursement Unit computer system and other processes, policies, and procedures related to child support. The ideal candidate will have excellent mathematical, communication, organizational, and analytical skills to be successful in performing the operations of the Central Region. Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of college with coursework in psychology, sociology, social welfare, business administration, or finance or equivalent educational attainment in a related field; or, education and experience equivalent to two (2) years of college with a minimum of eight (8) semester hours in finance and four (4) years of experience in the Child Support Enforcement program area; or, eight (8) years' experience performing paraprofessional functions in the Child Support Enforcement program area
  • Requires the ability to pass a national background check prior to employment due to accessing confidential federal tax information
  • Requires the ability to utilize and maintain state issued equipment such as a laptop.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Under immediate supervision, participates in an agency-sponsored child support services training program of up to twelve months in duration
  • Receives training in and assists with gathering data via face-to-face interviews and other sources and/or reviewing and preparing petitions, including those from other IV-D agencies /jurisdictions for Custodial Parents (CPs)
  • Assists with managing the establishment, modification, and enforcement of court orders
  • Assists with resolving customer service issues in a Call Center environment through direct customer contact or with other state agencies, legal partners, etc., by phone, written correspondence, and email
  • Receives training in and assists with interpreting and reviewing support orders, both judicial and administrative, for case review and entry into the system
  • Assists with calculating financial obligations and support balances related to child support accounts
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
