About The Position

Create and maintain an efficient food service program in an individual school under the direction and guidance of the school principal and the Director of Child Nutrition Services. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations. Essential Functions Cooperate with campus principal, faculty, students, and staff to make the food service program an integral part of the total school program. Work cooperatively with Health Department to ensure guidelines are being followed. Operate the school's child nutrition program within established guidelines to ensure a cost-effective program of high integrity with effective accounting of money and inventory. Monitor school for compliance with Texas Public Schools Nutrition Policies. Maintain good public relations with customers (students), coworkers, supervisors, and the community. Plan, prepare, and publicize appetizing and nutritious meals to increase participation in the school breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. Research, develop, and implement staff development training for food service staff to improve the food service program. Order food supplies and equipment according to established specifications and procedures. Receive, store, handle, prepare, and serve food, ensuring an efficient inventory control system and utilizing safe food handling practices. Direct, plan, and serve meals for special functions and community activities. Maintain and account for all functions and community activities. Train and assist personnel, assistant managers, cooks, and helpers in their responsibilities. Oversee the location, maintenance, and use of all kitchen equipment and fire safety equipment. Supervise assigned employees, oversee completion of duties, and maintain efficient documentation. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job. Other Responsibilities Participate in professional development activities as required by the district. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred
  • Possess current Food Handler's Card or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment with the district
  • Three (3) years experience in food preparation in a food service setting or as a helper in Child Nutrition
  • One (1) year of verifiable supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read write and follow oral and written directions in English, possess strong organizational skills.
  • Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license/ID card
  • Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation
  • Must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.
  • Have the ability to handle multiple tasks while working under pressure.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and frequent interruptions.
  • Continual standing and walking
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder)
  • Moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
