About The Position

Plan, develop, and manage student meal plans to ensure an efficient, productive, customer service oriented child nutrition program that fulfills regulatory requirements, meets the nutritional requirements for students, promotes the development of sound nutritional practices, and maintains a safe, sanitary, and inviting environment. Determine nutritional adequacy following federal, state, and local guidelines.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition, Home Economics, Institutional Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related field preferred
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  • ServSafe certification preferred Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to analyze productivity measures to evaluate customer service satisfaction and adjust standard menu offerings accordingly
  • Knowledge of technology used to capture and analyze data for menu analysis and digital menu software
  • Knowledge of menu planning, recipe crediting, nutrient analysis, and food-based menus
  • Knowledge of special diet and allergy management software, menu creation, and procedures
  • Ability to develop and implement effective marketing and promotional campaigns, including social media account management, food photography, and graphic design
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in school food service preferred

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Child Nutrition Coordinator, develop and maintain cost-effective menus using analysis software following USDA Guidelines and Texas Department of Agriculture requirements.
  • Maintain nutrition information posted on District nutrition services website, menu boards, and social media accounts.
  • Maintain records for all special diets and food allergies and send current nutritional data for menu items to parents, nurses, and Café Supervisors.
  • Provide diet information for students with special dietary needs by planning a therapeutic menu as required.
  • Plan marketing and promotional activities for all meals utilizing the Smarter Lunchrooms Movement.
  • Evaluate new products and continually seek innovations and ways of improvement.
  • Ensure current Child Nutrition (CN) labels and product analysis sheets are on file.
  • Serve as the department’s public relations specialist as assigned by the Child Nutrition Director.
  • Make layouts for printed media or public displays.
  • Manage and work to resolve questions, suggestions, and complaints from parents, Cafe Supervisors, customers, or citizens.
  • Develop, manage, implement, and communicate nutrition education activities and information through Child Nutrition staff to students, parents, campus staff, and administrators as needed to create awareness.
  • Participate in the School Health Advisory Committee and other committees, as necessary, including participation in school health fairs.
  • Conduct studies, as necessary, relative to student food acceptance, health, and nutrition needs.
  • Meet with parents and student advisory groups and conduct surveys to acquire input for program improvement.
  • Respond to surveys and requests for program information as directed by Child Nutrition Coordinator.
