Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies or another closely related field of study
  • Child life specific clinical training experience (e.g., practicum and/or internship) in a pediatric medical setting
  • Trained in child development principles and impact of illness and hospitalization on children and families: Application of therapeutic play, developmental education, and expressive modalities to address psychosocial needs of children and families.
  • Within 6 months of hire date: National Certified Child Life Specialist - Association of Child Life Professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years of experience working with young children and adolescents in a healthcare setting
  • Completion of at least 600 hours of clinical training supervised by a Certified Child Life Specialist
  • Training in child development and in understanding the psychosocial impact of illness and hospitalization on children and their families
  • Experience applying therapeutic play, providing developmental education, and using expressive modalities to address the psychosocial needs of children and families
