Child Life Specialist: Pediatric Subspecialty Clinics-Days At NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children's Hospital, our Certified Child Life Specialists work from a trauma-informed and culturally reflexive practice to support the unique needs of each patient and family in the medical setting. As advocates of family-centered care, the Komansky Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy team works in close partnership with the interdisciplinary team, programming partners, patients, and caregivers to meet the unique emotional, developmental, and cultural needs of each child and family. The Child Life Specialist dedicated to Weill Cornell Medicine’s Pediatric Subspecialty clinics at NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children's Hospital of the Children’s Hospital of New York will provide developmentally appropriate, trauma‑informed, and family‑centered psychosocial support to children and caregivers in the outpatient medical setting. Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams across pediatric subspecialty clinics, the specialist assesses patients’ emotional, developmental, and educational needs and delivers individualized interventions to reduce distress, promote adaptive coping, and support developmental integrity. Interventions may include preparation and education for medical encounters, therapeutic and medical play, emotional support, and self‑expression, with a strong emphasis on cultural responsiveness, advocacy, and evidence‑based practice. The role supports a safe, supportive clinical environment while enhancing the overall patient and family experience throughout outpatient care. Monday-Friday Days 4 weekends per year and 1 holiday every other year.
