About The Position

Nemours is hiring a Child Activity Coordinator (CAC) to organize, prepare and assist in the delivery of patient care services for the Child Life Department. The CAC assumes primary responsibility to prepare and maintain therapeutic treatment and patient care areas within safety and infection control guidelines. Carries out developmental and therapeutic play and activity programming in coordination with the Child Life Specialists and the health care team

Requirements

  • Associate's degree with a major in child development or related field, or previous experience working with children
  • CPR Certification within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hospitalized children preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages; pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality related to conversation, medical record, treatment plans, etc.
  • Follows basic medical precautions for each patient (for eating, drinking, mobility) and refers appropriately to health care team/nursing unit.
  • Assist patients where designated support is needed (such as transfers, ambulation practice, etc.)
  • Uses machines and tools in a responsible manner adhering to safety practices as outlined by the manufacturer and OSHA Standards.
  • Implements Child Life programming that is consistent with patient needs, goals of the health care team, and standards of professional Child Life practice through a variety of therapeutic and developmental play activities to promote self-healing, self-expression, understanding and mastery.

  • Provides basic psychosocial support to patients and families addressing issues related to hospitalization and continuity in the child's normal life experience; directs to professional staff as appropriate.
  • Responsible for monitoring the Child Life Play spaces to provide for safety and cleanliness appropriate to patient population, hospital policy and procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Contributes to maintaining a patient "safe zone" that is appealing to patients and families.
  • Communicates pertinent information on patient developmental and psychosocial issues to the health care team.
  • Provides guidance to volunteers serving in assigned Child Life area.
  • Provides supervision and assistance as needed to community programming events in the Child Life spaces.
