About The Position

The Role Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Supply Chain Officer serves as a strategic enterprise leader responsible for designing and executing an end-to-end supply chain strategy that drives clinical quality, cost optimization, caregiver enablement and sustainability across Providence's continuum of care. The Chief Supply Chain Officer provides enterprise leadership for Providence's end-to-end supply chain strategy, advancing clinical, financial and operational excellence across the entirety of the health system. The executive leads a national team responsible for procurement, logistics, strategic sourcing, digital supply chain transformation and sustainability initiatives. The CSCO partners with clinical, operational, and finance leaders to deliver resilient, data-driven and patient-centered supply chain operations that enable Providence's mission of compassionate, high quality, and affordable care for all. This leader will drive supply chain transformation to unlock strategic value for all Providence constituents by aligning supply chain performance with Providence's growth, innovation and community impact goals.

Requirements

  • At least ten (10) years of high-level procurement and supply chain experience at a large company or public institution required, including experience leading complex organizational change, strategic planning, and implementing best practices, technology and innovation.
  • Proven success in transforming large-scale supply chains, with measurable impact on cost, quality and resiliency.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital transformation, analytics, and technology-enabled operations.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare economics and regulatory frameworks.
  • Expert knowledge of the end-to-end supply chain life cycle with deep content expertise and skills in: Value Analysis Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Contract Management & Negotiation Supplier Risk & Relationship Management Supply Chain Operations & Logistics
  • An undergraduate degree is required, preferably in supply chain management, business or a related field. A master's degree or professional degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute an enterprise-wide supply chain strategy that aligns with Providence's clinical, financial and digital transformation goals.
  • Partner with system and divisional executives to ensure supply chain operations drive margin improvement, operational efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Lead development of a multi-year strategic roadmap to achieve a digitally enabled, resilient and sustainable supply chain.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the senior executive team on supply chain insights, risk, performance and strategic supplier partnership potential.
  • Chair and lead key internal governance bodies to drive efficient decision making across Providence by gaining commitment through a blend of data, storytelling and relationship-based influence.
  • Provide leadership and oversight across all critical Supply Chain functions including Value Analysis, Strategic Sourcing, Contract Management & Negotiation, Supplier Risk & Relationship Management, Operations and Logistics.
  • Drive standardization, utilization optimization, and integration of supply chain processes across ministries and service lines.
  • Continuously evolve and improve supply chain operations and performance through best practice adoption and deployment in alignment with local market needs and enterprise supply chain strategy.
  • Establish a comprehensive supply chain resiliency program to mitigate risk from global disruptions, market volatility, and supplier dependency.
  • Advance environmental and social responsibility goals, including supplier diversity, waste reduction, and supply chain sustainability.
  • Ensure strong controls across full procurement to payment lifecycle to best steward every dollar spent within Providence.
  • Enable capital efficiency and working capital optimization through strategic sourcing, inventory management and payment cycle improvements.
  • Oversee enterprise spend management, forecasting, and savings realization to achieve best-in-class cost performance, ensuring bottom line impact in partnership with finance executive leadership.
  • Develop and assist the respective divisions/markets to manage operations to an annual aggregate supply and purchased services budget.
  • Manage the global supply chain performance metrics to ensure operational performance goals are met throughout the organization in terms of cost and service.
  • Achieve top quartile performance in shared services (costs, service and quality).
  • Champion the deployment of emerging technologies and automation to modernize end-to-end supply chain functions.
  • Support business leaders and information technology teams in developing supplier strategies to enable the overall digital transformation of entire Providence enterprise.
  • Create real-time visibility into the end-to-end supply chain performance leveraging data integration, benchmarking, and advanced analytics.
  • Prepare the Providence supply chain workforce for adoption of digital tools.
  • Build and develop a high-performing, mission-driven supply chain organization that embodies Providence's values of compassion, dignity, justice, excellence, and integrity.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, digital adoption and continuous improvement.
  • Champion diversity, equity and inclusion across the supply chain workforce and supplier network.
  • Serve as the face of supply chain across the supply chain department, the broader organization, and in key industry relationships.
