Chief Policy Officer

Project BreadEast Boston, MA
$170,000 - $190,000Hybrid

About The Position

Project Bread connects people and communities in Massachusetts to reliable sources of food while advocating for policies that make food more accessible—so that no one goes hungry. This is a critical moment in time for Project Bread’s policy leadership, as food insecurity continues to rise due to inflation, rising costs, and rollbacks to federal aid. Project Bread has led impactful policy solutions, such as ensuring free school meals for every child in Massachusetts and integrating food and nutrition support into health care. The organization also operates the Food Source Hotline and engages individuals with lived experience to develop policy based on sound research, aiming for a permanent end to hunger in Massachusetts. Project Bread has nearly tripled in size since 2019, expanding programs, research, policy work, and community engagement. The Policy Team now includes seven professionals. The organization is undergoing a three-year strategic planning process and seeks a Chief Policy Officer deeply committed to its mission and agile enough to lead through a changing landscape. The Chief Policy Officer will lead the strategy and execution of Project Bread’s Policy and Advocacy work, reporting to the President/CEO and serving on the Executive Leadership Team. This role involves setting and overseeing the strategy, alignment, and day-to-day operations of the Policy and Advocacy team and the Make Hunger History coalition. The CPO will also serve as a key external voice for Project Bread with state and federal policymakers, partners, Board members, donors, and other stakeholders. A successful candidate will have experience as a senior policy and nonprofit leader with a proven track record of successful policy campaigns and the ability to translate strategic vision into measurable outcomes, leveraging all of Project Bread’s internal assets to achieve bold outcomes.
