About The Position

Assists in planning, supervision, and implementation of the Water Treatment Plant under the direction of the Superintendent or Manager

Requirements

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) required.
  • Extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment facility.
  • Grade 4 WTP Operator Certification through TDEC. (Must obtain Grade 4 certification within 18 months of hire with prior experience or reciprocity from another state)
  • Must attend all training courses necessary for Grade 4 certification.
  • Must attend all continuing education courses to keep certification current.
  • A valid Tennessee Driver license with clear driving record.
  • Given the critical infrastructure role of the facility and the need to maintain essential staffing during events such as severe weather, power outages, or other emergency conditions, employees in this position must be available to work rotating shifts, including 24/7 assignments. This position is subject to on-call and call-back requirements, which may include work outside of normal business hours, including days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The employee must be available to participate in a rotating on-call schedule and may be required to report to duty or remain onsite during emergency operations.
  • Candidates must maintain auto insurance limits 100/300 when using personal vehicles for city business.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside-weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college or Bachelor is preferred.
  • Preferred minimum of 5 years in a supervisory position in a medium to large water treatment plant.
  • CDL license is preferred.
  • Due to the on-call and emergency response nature of this position, the ideal candidate should reside in Wilson County or in one of the surrounding counties that border Wilson County, including Cannon, Davidson, DeKalb, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, or Trousdale Counties.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules and directs various activities for the operation and maintenance of water pumping, treatment and storage facilities. Estimates for specific time periods and provides to appropriate authorities anticipated raw water demand of municipal water utility.
  • Plans, supervises and participates as necessary in maintenance activities, including the preventive maintenance program.
  • Formulates operating policies, and directs chemical and bacteriological examinations of raw, filtered and treated water.
  • Develops SOP’s and maintenance schedules.
  • Supervises and participates in the maintenance of necessary records and making of required reports.
  • Confers with and advises subordinates on problems encountered in operations.
  • Trains water plant operators, schedules plant operators, makes shift assignments and training schedules.
  • Supervises as necessary the maintenance and repair of facilities and machinery.
  • Advises and assists in the design and installation of pumps, machinery and other equipment.
  • Handles and processes complaints concerning the quality of the water.
  • Makes certain safety rules complied with.
  • Makes certain that operations and procedures comply with the Tennessee Department of Public Health, EPA and OSHA regulations.
