About The Position

Under the guidance and direction of the President/CEO and on her behalf, the Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President oversees and provides leadership relating to programs, services, and general operations. The COO and Executive VP provides support to the President/CEO in order to ensure productive day-to-day management of the organization while supporting the outreach of the organization. On behalf of the President/CEO, the COO and Executive VP provides direction and leadership to ULMS staff and interacts with its Board of Directors, the general public, foundations, private businesses, corporations, community groups and leaders as well as with officials of the City of Seattle, King County, the State of Washington and other elected and appointed officials. In addition, on behalf of and in support of the President/CEO, the Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President: (i) Serves as a member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic and tactical leadership on behalf of the President/CEO; (ii) Ensures that ULMS systems, procedures, and programs effectively support the ULMS mission, general operations, programs and services; (iii) Performs those essential functions as more particularly set forth in the full scope of job responsibilities laid out in the job description.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional leadership experience, ideally in a rapidly evolving non-profit organization
  • Highly organized and ability to wear multiple hats in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment; a driving force who manages toward clarity and solutions
  • Ability to build successful business relationships with corporate and community donors
  • A successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, guiding investment in people and systems, and developing an infrastructure that creates a stronger and more efficient organization
  • Thorough understanding of project management; able to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and goals
  • A consummate team player with a flexible and creative approach
  • Excellent communication and coalition building skills with an ability to balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; high level of knowledge and understanding, especially as it relates to program replication, connecting programs to funding, creatively generating other resources, and building strategic partnerships
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to ULMS’ mission

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Business Management, Non-Profit Management or related field strongly desired
