About The Position

The Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) is a key leadership position at Little Flower and its affiliate, St. John’s Residence for Boys. The COO is responsible for setting the tone, cadence, and quality of all the organization’s daily operations to ensure that our mission leads to excellent services for clients and a thriving workplace for employees. The COO manages the functions of Little Flower that support the programmatic and operational growth and stability of Little Flower. The COO directs, aligns, and refines program services and program management to ensure quality services and achieve targeted program goals. The COO oversees all programs and operations, including quality assurance, development & communications, information technology, facilities, risk management and legal support, as well as overseeing the executive office operations. Direct reports include all three Senior Vice Presidents (NYC programs, Medical/Mental Health programs, and Strategy and Growth) as well as the Vice President of Long Island programs and Vice President of Quality Assurance/Compliance. The SVP of NYC programs is the Executive Director of St. John’s. The COO also manages a wide range of major organization-wide initiatives including strategic planning, Sanctuary certification, and national accreditation. The position requires the highest degree of professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy, attention to detail, meticulous work ethic, exceptional communication skills and ability to thrive among colleagues of extraordinary professionalism and commitment to mission. The COO is open to constructive feedback, mentoring, and continuous growth. This is a Senior Executive Council (“SEC”) role that is highly strategic and facilitative, which requires a combination of focus, flexibility, and capability to work alongside the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), who supervises Finance and HR, to oversee the daily internal operations of the organization. The COO serves as key advisor and support to the President & CEO. The COO will work in close partnership with the CEO, supporting and advancing the CEO’s strategic vision for the organization while driving the implementation and refinement of this vision in a manner that is aligned across the organization.   • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Requires a minimum of 10 years progressive non-profit human services management experience with more than five years at management level. Experience must include hands-on responsibility for the full scope of an administrative management or leadership position.
  • Deep knowledge of non-profit operational and quality assurance practices for human services organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the CEO’s Special Assistant on matters related to the coordination of the Executive Office and support of the Board of Directors. Directly coordinates significant matters processed by the Executive Office, including legal and contract monitoring.
  • Leads all organization-wide growth initiatives. Co-Leads the organization’s strategic plan implementation with the SVP, Strategy and Growth. Serves as Little Flower liaison to Social Current (Council on Accreditation) and Sanctuary Institute, ensuring all certification and periodic recertification
  • Leads all organizational crisis communications and crisis response, including public health emergencies. On call 24/7 for communications matters
  • Ensures compliance with all organizational contracts.
  • Serves as the emergency successor to the President & CEO, and prepare for same through training and mentoring from the CEO
  • Supervises the Senior Executive Council (SEC) members (SVPs and VPs) overseeing all program areas at both Little Flower and its affiliate St. John’s to provide excellent client services in support of our mission. Core program areas include residential programs, foster care, and medical/mental health services for youth, as well as community-based services for adults with disabilities. Program growth and innovation are key priorities.
  • Collaborates closely with the CFO to ensure program contracts and grants adhere to budget and remain aligned with goals and requirements.
  • Oversees the development and refinement of Little Flower’s program-related strategies, ensuring that all programs are designed to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Translates key insights from research and evaluation data into practice that drive improved outcomes and supports effective implementation of new programs.
  • Leads the development and implementation of program team goals, ensuring close alignment with broader organizational strategic priorities.
  • Oversees the ongoing evaluation of all programs and drives programmatic and operational improvements.
  • Manages and coaches the program team, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Drives change management process with the intention of firmly embedding metrics-focused results orientation in program delivery and operations.
  • Collaborates with program teams to effectively communicate Little Flower’s program successes and value proposition to a variety of audiences, with the goal of accelerating a positive impact.
  • Supervises the SVP, Strategy and Growth, who coordinates the daily implementation of the strategic plan and all growth planning. The SVP supervises all fundraising and development activities, including individual and corporate donors, events, and partnerships, as well as grant proposal development. The SVP, Strategy and Growth is also responsible for the IT/IS Department by aligning technology strategy with operational goals, driving digital formation, and ensuring IT systems enhance efficiency.
  • Convenes regular risk management team meetings, ensuring both risk prevention and response actions are taken in a full and timely fashion, and staffs the Board Risk Committee.
  • Supervises the Compliance Officer who serves as the organization’s Risk Management and HIPAA Officer.
  • Oversees the Quality Assurance and Compliance Department which includes: supervising professionals providing QA of all program operations; standardizing procedures for QA across programs and cross-training; developing and updating a monthly data dashboard for presentation to President & CEO; analyzing and interpreting data and metrics; and working with SEC colleagues to create and/or change policies and procedures based on data to improve quality of services. The QA/Compliance team also coordinates all legal and corporate insurance matters, and procurement of new services.
  • Acts as a liaison between Little Flower Union Free School District and LF organization being the single point of contact with the school superintendent and ensures that the organization and the school are working in close collaboration to ensure vision and mission are aligned for youth that are jointly served between both entities.
