Chief of SchoolsFull TimeAtlanta, GA Organization Overview Liberty Classical Schools is an Atlanta based nonprofit operator of K12 American classical charter schools where the mission is to form knowledgeable, virtuous citizens. Liberty schools deliver a content-rich, American classical curriculum that cultivates intellectual and moral virtue while preparing students for responsible citizenship. In partnership with Hillsdale College and Charter School Growth Fund, Liberty operates Atlanta Classical Academy (founded in 2014), Northwest Classical Academy in Kennesaw, Georgia (2021), and Cherokee Classical Academy (2025). These schools serve approximately 2,000 students and maintain waitlists exceeding 4,000 students in aggregate. Liberty plans to expand to ten or more schools in the region. Position Summary The Chief of Schools supports and supervises Heads of School and certain central staff members to ensure that schools serve students, families, employees, and external stakeholders with excellence. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief of Schools works closely with Hillsdale College’s K12 Office to guide continuous improvement in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning. The role emphasizes developing school leaders and teachers while maintaining fidelity to the American classical curriculum. While academic leadership is the primary focus, the Chief of Schools also ensures that Heads of School are exceptionally well-supported in academic data and assessment systems, registrar and student data systems, authorizer compliance, board policy and handbooks, enrollment support, professional development, human resources management, finance and accounting, fundraising, communications, volunteers management, and school operations. Liberty employs specialists in these domains who work directly with schools; the Chief of Schools ensures that this engagement is professional, well-coordinated, and responsive to the needs of school leaders. The central challenges of the role are to strengthen collaboration among Liberty’s schools, preserve the integrity of the American classical curriculum and pedagogy, and establish leadership systems and accountability practices that support continuous overall improvement and measurable student success. The Chief of Schools serves as Superintendent for Liberty schools that operate as independent local education agencies and therefore interacts with charter authorizers and supports compliance responsibilities associated with that role. Ideal candidates will be deeply committed to Liberty’s Mission and will bring a record of success in classical education along with demonstrated experience producing strong academic results in a public school district or charter school network. First Year Priorities In the first year, the Chief of Schools will prioritize the following: Building strong relationships with Liberty’s leadership team, Heads of School, faculty leaders, Hillsdale College, Charter School Growth Fund, and charter authorizers. Assessing Liberty’s academic systems, instructional practices, and leadership capacity across schools. Developing a comprehensive understanding of Liberty’s curriculum, assessment practices, Georgia accountability requirements, and each school’s charter obligations. Clarifying the roles and responsibilities of Liberty’s Academics Department and strengthening its partnership with school leaders. Developing and initiating a coherent five-year academic strategy aligned with the American classical model and adaptable to schools at different stages of development.
