About The Position

Responsible for providing vision, strategic direction, and driving educational excellence across all networks of District-managed schools. Leads educational performance and improvement initiatives that support school leaders in strategies to ensure every child succeeds. Develops systems for communication and collaboration on policies and practices that align with District priorities. Leads the drive to continually improve the quality of schools and eliminate opportunity gaps. Ensures the effective development and supervision of school leaders in ways that facilitate student achievement gains and efficient school operations. Reports to the Deputy Superintendent of Schools. Plans, assigns and supervises the work performed in the areas of responsibility; ensures compliance with District policy and practices and appropriate federal, state and local rules and regulations. The Chief of Schools, Interim must demonstrate a willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement. This role requires maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding all District matters, especially those involving the Superintendent, Chief of Staff, and the Board of Education. Ensuring trust and discretion is paramount to the success and integrity of this position.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in education required
  • Ten years of experience and leadership in urban school systems
  • Thorough industry knowledge
  • Identifies key issues and relationships relevant to achieving long range goals or vision
  • Ability to effectively lead a organization
  • Strategic planning and organizational development knowledge and skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team
  • Demonstrated experience performing as an effective leader and team player, and recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy
  • Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources
  • Encourages diversity and mutual respect among team members and demonstrates compassion and sensitivity
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.

Responsibilities

  • Leads key Schools Office functions to ensure that students across all District-managed schools have the academic and whole child supports needed and are on track to be ready for college and career
  • Leads for continuous improvement of Schools Office strategies and services; develop systems for collaboration and for learning
  • Collaborates with District leaders on developing and implementing policies, practices and services that address the needs of schools, address inequities and create focus on supporting every student to succeed
  • Works cross-functionally to design and implement a system for school leader development, learning and improvement within and across regional networks that enables cohort-based and peer-to-peer learning opportunities
  • Represents the Schools Office with communities and schools to support a common vision of equity and excellence that supports the learning of all students, fosters a culture of inclusion, honors a diverse set of viewpoints and sets and accomplishes District priorities
  • Supports the Deputy Superintendent of Schools in developing the talent management strategy for regional networks, hiring dynamic, effective leaders and developing pipelines for leadership
