About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operations of the Nursing Department ensuring a high quality of nursing services. Incumbent ensures compliance with patient care quality standards and maintains performance improvement within the department, provides leadership to the nursing team and assures competency of all nursing personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Master’s Degree is preferred, plus three years of experience in a Nurse Supervisor position or a combination of education and applicable experience.
  • Must have a valid full and unrestricted Professional license as a Registered Nurse in any state of the United States of America, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have defined leadership and communications skills and the ability to work well with other staff.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of both the CMS Conditions of Participation and the Joint Commission Accreditation Standards.
  • Must have CPR and BLS certificates.
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to employ professional verbal and written communications skills continually and effectively.

  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates and promotes the WCHS’s core mission, vision, and values.
  • Provides assistance to the nursing staff leaders to carry out the functions and activities expected of them.
  • Contributes ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing hospital wide.
  • Assists in policy making activities as related to customer service and the overall function of administrative and clinical programs.
  • Collaborates with other health care staff to establish and maintain programs that cross serve and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care.
  • Ensures the Nursing Program is and maintains compliance with all CMS certification requirements.
  • Ensures that all Nursing personnel are current in all their necessary competencies related to the requirements of their specific job functions.
  • Plans and coordinates with respective Nursing Leadership members for planning the annual departmental budget, annual reports, and strategic planning activities.
  • Responsible for cost controls to ensure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from the approved departmental budgets.
  • Ensures that the hospital nursing is adequately staffed to meet the health care needs of the patients. Ensures that the Improving Patient Care (IPC) model is implemented in the Ambulatory Outpatient Clinic.
  • Directs the training and instruction of nursing students.
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Management team and other committees as assigned.
  • Fulfills on-call duties as assigned or as deemed necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Makes decisions in matters of significance.
