About The Position

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the executive leader responsible for clinical quality, strategic direction, and operational oversight within [Campus/Entity Name]. Responsibilities

• Medical Staff Leadership:
• Provide oversight of credentialing and peer review processes.
• Foster strong partnerships with medical staff, ensuring a positive culture and engagement.
• Serve as the executive liaison for medical staff communication, overseeing interactions with MEC and broader physician community.
• Champion physician wellbeing initiatives to support a sustainable and thriving medical workforce.
• Quality and Risk Management:
• Accountable for quality performance at the campus/entity, overseeing metrics such as Vizient scorecards. Oversee physician aspects of maintenance and/or acquisition of accreditation by regulatory agencies (e.g., DHS, JCAHO, CCS).
• Partner with operations, nursing, and quality teams to establish and achieve clinical goals.
• Serve as the High Reliability Organization (HRO) executive champion for providers.
• Provide oversight and accountability for programmatic quality across service lines (STS, comprehensive stroke, health plan star ratings, etc.).
• Operations and Utilization Management:
• Ensure physician leadership in utilization management, driving key performance metrics (LOS, pharmacy spend, professional spend, admits/k, etc.).
• Act as the clinical partner in operational efficiency, improving ancillary services, patient flow, OR effectiveness, service line performance, etc.
• Strategic Leadership:
• Represent the physician executive voice in campus/entity strategic planning.
• Communicate clinical implications of organizational strategies, ensuring alignment with patient care needs.
• Act as a bridge between medical staff and leadership to implement strategic visions effectively.
• Maintain a 75/25% focus on campus vs. system-wide initiatives, championing local needs while supporting broader organizational objectives.
