About The Position

Performs duties and responsibilities of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificated Chief Flight Instructor; administer the Flight Education Division of the Aviation Department; manages all aspects of the Division; ensures that flight instruction is given in accordance with federal regulations; manages flight education programs; serves as OSU Flight Team Advisor; FAA Private Pilot Cert.; oversees flight safety programs, supervise Flight Education programs and personnel, and administer instructor standardization checks; serves as FAA certificated Chief Flight Instructor; assures instruction quality and student progress/completion, including exams and check-rides; recommends and develops flight instruction programs, improvements, innovative teaching methods, and research; instructs advanced students and assists instructors with special students; coordinates content of classroom instruction with faculty, may provide classroom instruction; assists with budgeting, marketing functions; responsible for hiring Flight Instructors, assigns duties and evaluates performance;

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degrees may be desirable.
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certification with an instrument rating
  • Certified Flight Instructor Certification
  • 5 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Aeronautical certificates and qualifications to satisfy FAR Part 141.35
  • Extensive experience required by FAR Part 141 in piloting and flight instruction, knowledge of general aviation operations
  • Qualifications necessary for FAA designated examiner (or demonstrated satisfactory progress toward certification) and FAA Chief Flight Instructor
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, Airplane Single & Multi-Engine Land ratings, Instrument rating
  • FAA Flight Instructor Certificate, Instrument & Multi-Engine Ratings
  • Demonstrated management skills required
  • Demonstrated academic skills required

Responsibilities

  • Administer the Flight Education Division of the Aviation Department
  • Manage all aspects of the Division
