MPHD is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated individual to serve as Chief Epidemiologist for the Epidemiology Program. The Chief Epidemiologist this leads and is responsible for overall management and supervision of assigned personnel. If you have any questions about this position please contact MPHD HR at (615)-340-5640 Oversees and conducts advanced-level professional epidemiologic work and supervises the work activities of subordinate staff involved in epidemiological investigations. Develops disease identification, surveillance, syndromic and control systems; maintains ongoing disease-reporting systems; and provides technical advice and assistance to all public health-delivery programs inside and outside of MPHD. Leads and manages the Epidemiology "Nerve" Center, which provides epidemiology services supporting infectious disease and outbreak investigations. Conducts environmental and community health assessments and interventions, principally for non-infectious conditions, including family & child health, chronic disease prevention, behavioral health, and injury prevention. Uses data, knowledge of best practices and stakeholder input to promote an environment of continuous quality improvement and effective public health surveillance and analysis. Responsible for administrative management of the Division, which includes fiscal oversight, financial management and supervision of staff. Interviews, hires, coaches and trains new staff. Identifies staff development needs and ensures appropriate training of employees. Engages program units across the Department and serves on internal workgroups to operationalize strategic planning goals. Deploys staff effectively to meet the needs of the Department. Consults and collaborates with program staff and community partners on matters of epidemiologic assessment, data analysis, and program evaluation. Makes public health data accessible, understandable, and useful for community-based prevention activities. Establishes camaraderie and peer support. As part of a continuous learning environment, explains epidemiology as a public health tool for the benefit of Department staff Serves as a leader within Metro Public Health Department, appropriately modeling and promoting the values of the Department in all interactions with internal and external customers. Graduation from an accredited college or university. Four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time paid employment in related field . Three (3) years must have been in a public administration/supervisory capacity. Completed graduate degree in a directly related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Masters or doctoral degree or other specialized credentials in a specific or related field and/or significant leadership and management ability may be required for some positions. Demonstrated success as a manager, administrator and team builder required Valid driver's license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
