Chief Engineer – JLL What this job involves: As Chief Engineer at JLL, you will lead the engineering team in the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems—including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical, lighting, and temperature control systems—for a property or campus within our managed portfolio. You’ll provide hands-on technical expertise, maintain critical infrastructure, ensure compliance and safety, and support high-quality tenant experiences. Your leadership and operational excellence will help drive JLL’s reputation as a premier provider of integrated facilities management, ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our client’s buildings. What your day-to-day will look like:

Requirements

  • Associate degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 8 years of facility-related work experience, including leadership or supervisory roles
  • Universal Technician certification for CFCs
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems in critical facilities, lab, or high-rise environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel), CMMS systems, and general computer/smartphone use
  • Ability to pass an extensive, fingerprint-based background investigation
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds frequently, climbing up to 30 feet, and working in changing environmental and weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with financial/budget management in facility operations
  • Prior experience collaborating with multiple building stakeholders, vendors, and client representatives
  • Experience developing and leading safety training programs
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to mentor and teach maintenance staff
  • Familiarity with specialized environments, including critical, lab, or high-rise facilities

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of all building systems, ensuring maximum uptime and compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Perform and direct hands-on preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks, with high "wrench time" as part of daily work
  • Develop and implement documented maintenance plans and ensure proper recordkeeping of rounds, logs, and compliance documents
  • Identify and address safety hazards; ensure team adherence to PPE usage, safety policies, and training requirements
  • Utilize the CMMS system to efficiently plan and schedule work, ensuring timely close-out and performance to KPIs
  • Manage and support engineering staff, including direct supervision, training, and professional development
  • Collaborate with the Facility Manager to administer client programs, coordinate major projects, and manage budgets
