About The Position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Engineering Department, including the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and mechanical systems. This role ensures that all facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner to provide comfort and safety for guests and staff. The Chief Engineer will develop, coordinate, and monitor a comprehensive maintenance program to support building operations and preventive maintenance standards. Additionally, this position supervises, trains, and manages all Engineering staff, ensuring compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry best practices. The hospitality industry operates seven (7) days per week, twenty-four (24) hours per day. As such, regular and reliable attendance, in accordance with company standards, is essential for success in this role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory and building maintenance experience.
  • Strong command of the English language with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced maintenance knowledge and the ability to manage all aspects of an Engineering Department. Experience with modern building controls, preventive maintenance programs, and facility operations is required.
  • Computer proficiency required; familiarity with Microsoft Office Experience with hotel systems such as MICROS is a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of general building maintenance methods and materials, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC systems.
  • Skilled in the use, maintenance, and repair of tools and equipment commonly used in building and facility maintenance.
  • Experience in major facility maintenance and repair, systems design, and troubleshooting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hotel systems such as MICROS is a plus.
  • Journeyman-level skills in maintenance trades preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper staffing levels and scheduling procedures to achieve maximum payroll productivity while maintaining service standards established by the management company.
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, counsel, schedule, and evaluate Engineering staff to ensure performance standards and safety requirements are met.
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times; respond to and resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring guest satisfaction and effective communication with team members.
  • Inspect and monitor buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance and preventive maintenance needs.
  • Develop work procedures and assign tasks to Engineering personnel to ensure efficient operations and optimal productivity.
  • Prepare and submit cost estimates, repair recommendations, and feasibility analyses for maintenance requests, including logical solutions and actual departmental needs.
