About The Position

We’re looking for a Chief Engineer to take ownership of day-to-day building operations, oversee critical systems, and lead an on-site engineering team with a strong focus on safety, service, and efficiency. What You’ll Do As Chief Engineer, you’ll oversee the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all building systems while supporting tenant needs and overall property performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 7–10+ years of experience in building operations or facilities management
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial building systems
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills with tenants, vendors, and internal teams
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems and standard office software

Nice To Haves

  • Trade certification, technical diploma, or engineering-related education preferred
  • Relevant licenses/certifications strongly preferred (HVAC, electrical, stationary engineer, boiler license, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all major building systems including: HVAC, electrical, plumbing Life safety, fire protection Building automation systems (BAS)
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance programs are completed efficiently and on schedule
  • Monitor building performance and recommend upgrades to improve reliability and efficiency
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and develop engineering and maintenance staff
  • Assign work schedules and ensure proper daily coverage for operations
  • Promote a strong safety culture and enforce compliance with company safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations
  • Conduct routine building inspections and operational audits
  • Maintain accurate records including logs, permits, and compliance documentation
  • Manage vendors, service contracts, and third-party contractors
  • Assist with budget planning and help control operating and maintenance costs
  • Review and authorize proposals within approval limits while ensuring quality and cost control
  • Respond to tenant service requests promptly and professionally
  • Support tenant improvement projects and coordinate engineering-related work
  • Partner closely with the Property Manager to support overall asset performance
  • Prepare detailed reports and submit updates to the Property Manager
